FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A GoFundMe campaign, which was launched by comedian Lindsay Glazer for $14 to replace NBA champion Scottie Pippen’s missing cutlery, not only achieved the intended goal, but has far surpassed that goal.
The campaign, which was launched Dec. 5, has raised $699 so far, and all of the funds raised will actually be donated to the Fisher House Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which helps members of the military.
Glazer setup the GoFundMe in an effort to do something positive with the significant publicity surrounding the lawsuit filed against her by Pippen earlier this month.
“All kidding aside, the Fisher House Foundation is a wonderful organization, which helps military members, their families and veterans and we wanted to use this exposure for something good,” Glazer said. “To add to this, I am also personally going to match up to $2,000 of the final amount donated.”
On Dec. 3, Pippen’s attorney filed a lawsuit in the 17th Judicial Court in Broward County, Florida, alleging that Glazer(Woloshin) and her family had caused over $100,000 in damage to the former NBA champion’s Fort Lauderdale mansion during her time as a tenant. Glazer and her family leased the mansion after their home and permanent residence was damaged by Hurricane Irma.
The lawsuit, which is riddled with inaccuracies, misrepresented Glazer as a member of the famous Glazer family, who own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manchester United Football Club and are worth approximately $4.5 billion.
The complaint alleges that Glazer and her family caused the home to fall into disrepair, failed to pay bills and stole a set of Cuisinart knives.
“The allegations contained in the lawsuit are false and in many instances, preposterous. Our attorney will soon be addressing this in court filings,” Glazer said. “It is also important to note that after my family and I moved out of the house, Pippen imposed a claim for damages on the security deposit of $50,000.00, however, after our attorney formally objected to this claim, Pippen eventually returned the entire deposit.”
According to Glazer, the house was in poor condition when her and her family first moved in and they left it in a much better condition after seven months of living there.
“Ultimately, we have no intention on paying the amount demanded by Pippen and we will aggressively defend the lawsuit,” Glazer said. “However, I did say if more than $14 was raised via the GoFundMe, I would send Scottie a set of Cuisinart knives since he can’t seem to find his, so I will make sure to do so, as soon as the lawsuit is resolved and our legal counsel deems it appropriate.”
Also familiar with the courtroom, Glazer is an attorney and current member of the Florida Bar Association. As a comedian, Glazer has performed at the Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles for Sit ‘n Spin, The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles and Comic Strip Live in New York City.
